On Thursday November 17th the following students attended the 33rd UNL Math Day. Wriston Jay, Bella Ruda, Grace Schlueter, Kaitlin Mundil, Jacob Smith, Kaylee Hilbers, and Ella Weitzenkamp competed for Logan View. The students competed in a series of math bowl competitions against schools from around the state. The team won 1 competition, tied 2, and lost 2 on the day. Questions ranged from Geometry level questions through Calculus and the students had 30 seconds to answer the question. The day also consisted of listening to a lecture from 2 mathematicians from UNL about how to cut a square pizza, as well as getting to tour a bit of the UNL campus and enjoy some of the food in the dining hall.
This group along with a few others also took the Probe 1 exam on October 26th for a chance to take Probe 2 on math day. We did not have any students qualify for the second round. A score of 41 ended up being needed to move on and Ella Weitzenkamp had Logan View’s highest score with a 34. We did have 4 students score above a 30 which is great for this difficult exam! It was a great experience for our students to get to be back to the first in person math day since covid, and they competed very well.
