Where did this semester go? Seniors, now is the time to narrow down college choices, make sure you have completed the FAFSA, take college visits or set up a virtual tour/meeting and start preparing and searching for scholarship opportunities.
Every school provides academic scholarships, in order to receive an academic scholarship, a student must be accepted to the perspective school. That is why it is important that you apply to several colleges. If interested in scholarships from that school, application forms should be turned in before Christmas vacation. Several schools have early scholarship due dates. Be sure to check college websites for details and deadlines. ***Don’t forget to update your information in Naviance so your transcripts and other information can be sent to the colleges as your information updates.

Needing a Recommendation Letter? Follow the tips below.
1. Don't wait until the last minute for a person to write a letter for you. Ask at least two weeks in advance, and ALWAYS provide the day you need it done. Also let the recommenders know who to give the letter to (you, your counselor, mailed, etc).
2. Always, always ASK, don't TELL a person to write a letter for you. It is a favor, and everyone is busy, not just you.
3. Be smart as to who you chose. Think about your interaction with the person, and if they've seen you at your best. Does he/she really know you? Have you made life hard/easy for him/her? If there's probably more negatives then positives the person could say about you, it's probably time to think of someone else.
For theses tips and more, contact Mrs. Hanel, locate the Recommendation Letter document in Naviance.
A reminder to parents to be careful about possible scams regarding scholarship money and preparing students to get ahead of the game. The warning sign of a possible scam is if someone would ask for money or application fees. If you have to pay money to get money, it is probably a scam.
The next scheduled ACT is Saturday, February 6. Registration deadline is Friday, January 8. SENIORS – This is one of your last chances to raise your ACT score to help off-set college cost

Logan View National Honor Society – Service Projects
National Honor Society members have been very busy this semester. The Logan View National Honor Society Chapter takes pride in upholding the four pillars of the organization: specifically, service. Throughout the school year, members of the NHS Chapter lend a helping hand to our cafeteria staff by washing and disinfecting tables in between lunches. We also collect recycling throughout the school every week. Our first big service project was outdoor beautification. In October, NHS members participated in their bi-annual highway clean-up. Members collected trash alongside highway 70 heading North and South from Logan View High School.
NHS Volley-Rama Volleyball Tournament
For the group’s first community building philanthropy project, NHS held a Volley-Rama Volleyball Tournament. On Saturday, November 12, Logan View students in grades 7-12, current staff members, community members and alumni took to the court to see who could win bragging rights. It was a fun and enjoyable day whether you were a spectator or player. Admission and donations were collected for the Siena Francis House in Omaha and the Life House in Fremont. The group will travel to the Siena Francis House on December 17 to drop off the donations and help serve food to the homeless. On December 22, the group will then travel to Fremont to drop off donations and volunteer an hour of their time to the Life House. We are excited to see what the upcoming months have in store for our Chapter and the differences we can continue to make in our community.
The Queens took first place in the HS/Adult Division. Members were Sydney Sagehorn, Ava Schafersman, Haley Isaac, Jessica Nelson, Grace Schlueter, Evan Hartman, Kaden Gregory and Aaron Fitzke.
In the 7-9 grade division, the first place winners were the KFC Cowboys. Members were Jayde Kreifels, Marissa Hilbers, Paityn Vacha, Hannah Schlueter, Ethan Meyer, Graidon Drey and Jett Vacha.
Comments from participant, Andrew Kotik,
“I liked that it was a fun experience for me and I got to play a new sport with my friends. The day was a fun competitive gathering experience for the high schoolers as well as involving the junior high kids. It was a new adventure for us guys to get to play volleyball since the girls played powder puff football at the beginning of the year.”
An alum participant, Molly Stieren (Bartek), stated that she really enjoyed the chance to come back and play with former teammates. But what I appreciated the most was the attitudes and behaviors of the students; it made it fun for us older folks playing. I hope this is an event that continues. Thank you for the opportunity.
