LVSS Completes season 2016

LVSS completes their final week of the season going 2-2.  LVSS traveled to North Bend on Monday to take on North Bend, Hailey Schiermeyer started the game off with a bang as she hit a home run to right center.  North Bend answered back in the bottom of the first scoring 2 and taking a 2-1 lead.  LVSS took the lead for good in the third scoring 3 runs, the big blow was a 2-run home run by Sierra Beacom. The score remained the same until they took out the big bats and hitting 2 doubles and 2 triples scoring four runs to take an 8-2 lead and hung on to win 8-6.  Beacom took the win on the mound striking out 6.  Leading at the plate offensively was Schiermeyer with three hits (double, home run) and Morgan Morgan (triple), clubbing two hits apiece included Olivia Dunklau and Abby Kahlandt, joining the hit parade Beacom (Home Run), Ashley Peters (double), Faith Wagner, Breanna Smith and Cheyanne Shepard (triple).
LVSS traveled to Arlington to begin district play against Bishop Neumann and played scared and a little sloppy, we were able to muster 7 hits but committed 8 errors which led to our demise.  Bishop Neumann went on to win 14-4 and won the district to qualify for the State Softball tournament.  LVSS was led at the plate by Beacom with 2 hits, earning a hit apiece included Schiermeyer, Peters, Morgan, Kahlandt and Shepard (double).  Mother Nature won the remainder of the day suspending play until Friday.  The sun came out on Friday and turned into a beautiful day LVSS started play of against familiar foe North Bend, the game remained 0-0 until the third inning when LVSS scored 6 runs on 6 hits and one error to bring the score 6-0 after 3, LVSS continued their hot ways as they scored three more runs in the 4th going on to win 9-1 in five innings. Beacom earned the win on the mound allowing one hit and striking out 3.  Leading at the plate was Beacom with 2 hits (double), adding a hit apiece included Kahlandt (double), Schiermeyer, Peters, and Dunklau.  LVSS saw their season come to an end by the hands of Arlington as they ran into a hot team that hit three runs, and rode the strong arm of their pitcher as LVSS could only garnish three hits.  Providing the offense for LVSS was Morgan, Schiermeyer and Beacom one hit apiece.  LVSS finishes the season with a 10-25 record.  Season Stats will be in next weeks paper.

LVSS Softball Completes Season
LVSS recently completed its 2015 softball season with a 7-26 record.  The team played 10 games in which their opponent ended up playing in the State Tournament including Class B State Champion Gretna and Class C State Runner-Up Bishop Neumann. The team consisted of 13 members and I’m confident each can take away fond memories of the season, said Coach Mowinkel.  The team consisted of 4 freshman Ashley Peters, Cheyanne Shepard, Olivia Stillman and Faith Wagner, 5 sophomores Sierra Beacom, Abby Kahlandt, Morgan Morgan, Hailey Schiermeyer and Branna Smith, 0 juniors and 4 seniors Lexie Elsey, Paige Heinke, Madison Obermiller, and Katie Svehla.  Lexie Elsey was a first year player that earned a starting outfield position at the end of the year.  Paige Heinke a four year member of LVSS, primarily played short shop and some centerfield she was third on the team in assists and the team captain.  Madison Obermiller was another first year member who primarily batted and led our team from the dug out with a positive attitude. Katie Svehla another 4 year member, played left field helped our outfielders get better and was 2nd on the team in walks. The seniors showed great leadership and helped the underclassman feel welcomed, they talked well and saved their best for their senior season.  The top two of each offensive category and defensive category are as follows:

The LVSS team has several girls back for next year and that have gained valuable experience the future looks bright!!  The senior’s leadership and dedication to the program will be missed dearly, they represented their team with passion and respect and I couldn’t have asked for a better group of young lady’s to work with, said Coach Mowinkel.
